What happens when I call?

You will speak to someone who will listen to you describe your situation. Our first goal will be to determine if you are physically safe and not in need of immediate attention. If you and the Bay Cove staff decide together that an urgent visit with a mental health professional is the best next step, a clinician will be dispatched to your location, usually arriving within an hour. If you and the Bay Cove staff decide together that the situation does not require an immediate response, you will be set up with an appointment. Our goal is to see people interested in ongoing behavioral health care as quickly as possible, sometimes even that same day!

What happens during the visit?

If your situation requires an immediate response, the mobile crisis clinician will review your immediate situation with you, and the resource options available to help you resolve the crisis. The clinician will conduct an evaluation and, with your input, create a plan that will help you to resolve the crisis.

This plan may include referrals to outpatient therapy for individuals and families, to expedited psychopharm services for youth and adults, to substance use services, to Adult Community Crisis Stabilization or Youth Community Crisis Stabilization and/or to enhanced care coordination with peer supports, recovery coaches, family partners, and case managers - all services provided by the Bay Cove Behavioral Health & Wellness Center!

The mobile crisis clinician will also work with you to develop ideas on how to tap into your personal support network. Your plan may also include referrals for transportation services, nutrition assistance, or housing services. Our goal is not only to resolve the current crisis but to leave you with tools to manage difficult times that may recur.

We will make all necessary phone calls to set up appointments with Bay Cove Behavioral Health & Wellness Center providers, so all you have to do in that moment is to focus on your wellbeing.

At times, a crisis will require inpatient treatment—like a detox program or hospital—and we will help arrange that, too. We will not leave until you feel safe, and you are comfortable with the treatment plan.

What happens after the visit?

The goal of the visit is to create a plan with the person so they may remain at home with community-based supports. Anyone who is seen by our mobile crisis response team will be enrolled in our follow-up program, where we will call each day to check in. We may ask if symptoms have worsened or improved, ask if a person is still comfortable with the treatment plan, or if anything else has happened that changes the person’s situation. These calls are meant to provide support while you heal from your crisis. You may decline these calls at any time.

In some cases, a person we assist will go to a treatment facility for their safety, like a behavioral health hospital, or a substance use treatment facility. We will communicate all important information to this facility and remain in communication with the treatment team throughout the stay. The goal is to keep the community connection, even when a treatment facility stay is necessary, and we will do everything we can to make this process as smooth and comfortable as possible.

When can I call back?

Anytime!
